Alton Castle

Living the Good News

28 July-4 August (Mon-Mon)

All-age; Partial self-help

How do we live the good news of the Gospel in today's world? This week, we will look at the current issues challenging our world, in the light of Luke 4:18 and aspects of Catholic social teaching.

Topics to be considered will include migrant labour, rising prison populations, human trafficking and some of the ecological challenges facing our world. We will ask ourselves how we, as lay church people, can and should respond; and we will consider how we are all, in different ways, called to serve, and how we can make a difference.

Chair: Cathy Scott & Rosemary Read

Organisers: Coral Smart, Margaret Phillips, Adam O'Brien

Chief Helper: Anna Huckfield

Alton Castle in Staffordshire is a residential youth centre, run by Birmingham Archdiocese. It has super facilities for families, in a Gothic castle redesigned by Pugin (including a dungeon games room!). It is set in 42 acres of grounds and wooded hills and has spectacular views over the Churnet valley. The castle has a separate sports hall and play rooms. Alton Towers theme park is a few minutes away.

Accommodation is mainly in small dormitories and family rooms, with some single rooms in a separate building. This week is not suitable for mobility-impaired guests.
